Helen Parsonage was born in Nocton, England. She attended the University of Birmingham where she graduated with honors in 1981. After a number of years as a teacher and paralegal she was admitted to North Carolina Central University School of Law, graduating from the Evening Program summa cum laude in 2006. While in law school, Helen was a member of the Board of Editors of Law Journal as well as of the Trial Advocacy and Moot Court Boards. In 2006 she was awarded the North Carolina Bar Association Certificate of Appreciation for pro bono work with asylum law and indigent criminal defense.
