David Pishko was born in Niagara Falls, New York. He attended Duke University where he graduated cum laude in 1972. He then served in the United States Army, and returned to Duke Law School, graduating with distinction in 1977. While in law school, David served as the Article Editor of the Duke Law Journal.

Since 1978, David has represented individuals who are confronted with a significant personal or business crisis. He practices primarily in the areas of professional malpractice, commercial litigation and family law. He has successfully represented clients in negligence claims against health care providers, lawyers and stock brokers. He has also handled complex business cases involving breach of contract and unfair trade practices. His family law practice focuses on significant cases involving issues of child custody, alimony and the distribution of marital property. He has been board certified as a specialist in family law by the North Carolina State Bar.

Public service is an important aspect of David's law practice. He has served as the Board President of the Legal Aid Society and regularly volunteers to represent victims of domestic violence. He has also handled post-conviction proceedings for death row inmates.

David also serves as an adjunct lecturer at Wake Forest Law School, where he has taught Pretrial Practice and Procedure for 14 years. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, and has served on the Academy's Board of Governors and as the Chair of the Academy's Editorial Board. He has published numerous articles on civil procedure topics and is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars. In 1998, David took a six month sabbatical from his law practice and was a visiting law lecturer at University College Cork in Ireland.

David is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a national association of lawyers with extensive trial experience dedicated to preserving the integrity of the civil justice system. He is also a Master of the Joseph Branch Inn of Court, a group composed of experienced lawyers, judges, law professors and students, which promotes professionalism in trial practice. David was selected for inclusion in the 2003-2004 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the areas of legal malpractice law and family law.
