David Pishko was born in Niagara Falls, New York. He attended Duke
University where he graduated cum laude in 1972. He then served in
the United States Army, and returned to Duke Law School, graduating
with distinction in 1977. While in law school, David served as the
Article Editor of the Duke Law Journal.
Since 1978, David has
represented individuals who are confronted with a significant
personal or business crisis. He practices primarily in the areas of
professional malpractice, commercial litigation and family law. He
has successfully represented clients in negligence claims against
health care providers, lawyers and stock brokers. He has also
handled complex business cases involving breach of contract and
unfair trade practices. His family law practice focuses on
significant cases involving issues of child custody, alimony and the
distribution of marital property. He has been board certified as a
specialist in family law by the North Carolina State Bar.
Public service is an
important aspect of David's law practice. He has served as the Board
President of the Legal Aid Society and regularly volunteers to
represent victims of domestic violence. He has also handled
post-conviction proceedings for death row inmates.
David also serves as
an adjunct lecturer at Wake Forest Law School, where he has taught
Pretrial Practice and Procedure for 14 years. He is a member of the
Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the North Carolina
Academy of Trial Lawyers, and has served on the Academy's Board of
Governors and as the Chair of the Academy's Editorial Board. He has
published numerous articles on civil procedure topics and is a
frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars. In 1998,
David took a six month sabbatical from his law practice and was a
visiting law lecturer at University College Cork in Ireland.
David is a member of
the American Board of Trial Advocates, a national association of
lawyers with extensive trial experience dedicated to preserving the
integrity of the civil justice system. He is also a Master of the
Joseph Branch Inn of Court, a group composed of experienced lawyers,
judges, law professors and students, which promotes professionalism
in trial practice. David was selected for inclusion in the 2003-2004
edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the areas of legal
malpractice law and family law.
David is married and
has two daughters. He is an avid runner, and has completed five
marathons. He also enjoys golf, skiing and watching college
basketball.
