Today, Stokes County is one of North Carolina's fasting growing areas.  The population of 44,711 (Census 2000) enjoys the region's mild climate, with less than 9 inches of snowfall per year. The City of King is the county's largest municipality and is located directly on Highway 52, which is soon to become Interstate 74, making it a prime location for business.  Danbury, the county seat, is a quaint, historic small town.  In the Southeastern portion of Stokes, Walnut Cove is a town that grew up next to the railroad, and today is a thriving community.
