Winston-Salem, NC was voted onto the prestigious list of "American's Most Livable Cities" in April, 2004 by Partners for Livable Communities.  Known as 'City of The Arts', rated 5th among large cities for career opportunities by National Business Employers Weekly, boasting the lowest cost of living in the state of North Carolina, along with being voted in the top 20 for cities with the highest quality of life (Business Development Outlook Magazine), it's easy to see why Winston-Salem residents are proud of their city and delighted to live here.

Located in Forsyth County, in North Carolina's lovely Piedmont Triad region, Winston-Salem is situated halfway between Atlanta and Washington DC, and less than 90 minutes from Raleigh and Charlotte.  Its population of just over 185,000 (Census 2000) enjoy being only four hours from the ocean and a mere two hour drive to the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains.  Protected by mountain barriers, the Piedmont region enjoys a mild climate.  Snowfall is rare and the average summer temperature is a mellow 77 degrees, while the average winter temperature is 45.

The business climate is one of excitement and growth.  Built on the tobacco and textiles industries, today's Winston-Salem has become home to banking firms, medical research and biotechnology industries and many international corporations.  Winston-Salem, NC is now the 11th largest financial center in the nation.

Known as the 'city built on cooperation', Winston-Salem has a proud African-American heritage and culture.  The Delta Arts Center, the Diggs Gallery and the North Carolina Black Repertory Company are just a few of the organizations devoted to honoring and preserving this rich heritage.

All art and culture is important to the city of Winston-Salem.  Since the first Moravian settlers came to the area, bringing their music and their crafts, Winston-Salem residents have had a long tradition of supporting the arts.  Dozens of museums abound, the North Carolina School of Arts is found here, as well as the National Black Theatre Festival.
